Microsclerotherapy for Treating Spider Veins (Telangiectasia)
The Consultation
At Brewood Skin Clinic we offer an hour-long consultation prior to your treatment giving you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have and for Sarah to assess your suitability for treatment. Sarah will complete a medical history and spend time going through treatment options as well as all the necessary information you require to enable an informed decision on whether you wish to proceed with treatment, including aftercare, recovery time and any risks and side effects. Sarah will make sure you are fully aware of all the facts. Also, at this appointment, careful leg measurements will be recorded to enable your compression hosiery to be ordered in ready for your first treatment. Your first treatment can then be booked if you wish to proceed.

Who Is Microsclerotherapy For?
Microsclerotherapy continues to be the most effective treatment for spider veins on the legs, known as telangiectasia. Once the vessels have become raised or lumpy, they are unsuitable for this treatment and would require either a foam, laser, or surgical option. However, Microscloratherpy is suitable for all, over the age of 18, subject to no contraindications been present.

How Does It Work?
Microsclerotherapy uses a chemical sclerosant liquid that displaces the blood in the vein, the chemicals then destroy the cells in the vein lining which causes the vein to die off. The veins then shrink and eventually, the body breaks down the dead vein and the white blood cells carry any remnants away.
The procedure consists of a tiny needle being used to inject the liquid into each cluster of thread veins. Clients often describe a slight sting as the sclerosant enters, but no actual pain. There is a maximum dose of sclerosant permitted for each patient and so if there are extensive thread veins, it may not be possible to inject all of them during one session.
After the injections have been completed, compression stockings are applied. These must be worn for one week. Multiple treatments are required, approximately four and a minimum of four weeks is left between each treatment.

Ready to Book Microsclerotherapy?
Prior to the commencement of treatment, a consultation is required to ensure this is the correct course for you.
It is normal to require more than 1 session of injections, so it is important to note that it might take time to fully resolve all of your thread veins.
Most patients require between 2 and 4 sessions, with approximately 4 weeks between appointments. It is not unusual for the veins to appear darker initially as the coagulation process is taking place.
