What are Leg Veins / Telangiectasia?

Spider veins, also known as telangiectasia or thread veins, are prominent clusters of damaged small blood vessels close to the skins surface. They can appear as red, blue, or purple lines bulging and branching out from a central locus resulting in a spider-like appearance. Often described as looking like a map, these veins which are treatable with Microsclerotherapy are not generally painful, raised, or bumpy to the touch. They can be an indication of poor or dysfunctional blood flow, leading to Varicose vein formation in later years. Spider veins rarely cause health problems, though they can occasionally become painful. They can, however, be a significant cosmetic nuisance, and treatments primarily aim to improve appearance. Examination of the problematic vessels is essential to enable categorisation of the venous disease on the CEAP (Clinical, Etiological, Anatomical and Pathological) classification system. C1 – for Telangiectasia and reticular veins and therefore suitable for treatment with Microsclerotherapy.

What Causes Unslightly leg veins?

The exact cause of spider veins is unknown, some suggestions are that they arise from varicose veins, others that they are a sign of local anoxia (oxygen deficiency), whatever the cause they are most certainly a sign of the milder end of the chronic venous insufficiency spectrum with varicose veins at the more severe end.

Her consultation was thorough and pleasant.
My products arrived the next day.
