If, however, you decide you don’t wish to have your patch test during your consultations these can be booked for a separate appointment.  A patch will be required at least one week prior to the commencement of treatment in all cases.

Will It Hurt?

Laser hair removal is not a pain-free treatment. One of the clinical endpoints that we look for when carrying out a treatment is that the patient can feel a short, sharp, pinprick sensation followed by warmth to the skin. This response is not meant to be agony and is in fact well tolerated by the patient.

Why Do I Need A Patch Test?

It has long been considered best practice to carry out a patch test, Prior to commencing any light-based therapies. There are two reasons for this; firstly and most importantly it is to assess whether the patient’s skin and hair type can tolerate the treatment settings required to bring about best results, Without Causing any potential risk or harm to the patient. And secondly it is to ascertain whether effective treatment is a likely outcome by assessing whether a specific criteria of clinical endpoints can be achieved. These clinical endpoints when visible will show that best outcomes can be achieved safely.

Why Do I Need More Than One Treatment?

It is always recommended to expect to have approximately six treatments when having a course of laser hair removal. This number varies with some patients, (dependent on individual circumstances e.g. a patient with polycystic ovaries may require long-term maintenance treatments) but tends to be a common average. The reason more than one treatment is required is that the laser can only have any effect when the hair is in the growing phase of the cycle, because a patch of hair can have hairs in all three different phases of the hair growth cycle at any one time we know that only a portion of the hair will be effectively treated at each treatment. Therefore repeat treatments are required so that all the hair can ultimately be treated at the right stage of the Hair growth cycle.

Can You Treat Anywhere?

Yes, almost every area of the body can be treated on both male and females with the only exception being the area between the eyebrow and the eye known as the upper orbital rim.  This area is too close to the eye and therefore unsafe for laser hair removal treatment.

Can You Treat Any Hair Colour?

The hair has to have Melanin colour in it and therefore laser hair removal will be ineffective on grey, white, blonde or red hair.  If hair is borderline to any of these colours it is always worth carrying out a patch test to see if clinical endpoints can be achieved.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

I always recommend patients to budget for six treatments as an initial course. This number is not set in stone and can vary with some individuals dependent on other factors for example hormonal. Subsequently, some patients do not require as many as six and may only need four. Continual reviews and assessments are carried out throughout the course of treatment and plans tailored accordingly. Going forward occasional maintenance treatments may be required that again this will be assessed at reviews.

I Have Poly Cystic Ovaries, Will Laser Hair Removal Help Me?

Absolutely, laser hair removal is an excellent way of managing unwanted hair growth which is a symptom of polycystic ovaries.  Those patients suffering with the condition may require long-term maintenance treatments but hopefully these will get less and less frequent making this unwanted symptom highly manageable.

Will My Unwanted Hair Be Permanently Gone After Laser Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal should never be promoted as a permanent hair removal treatment.  Such claims are not only unprofessional but irresponsible as no one can guarantee you will not have any hair growth in the future. What laser hair removal can assure is that any future hair growth will be reduced, finer and fairer. Negating the need for alternative hair management options. Laser hair removal is also reported as improving the skin in the areas where the hair growth was.  However, these claims only possible if the quality of the laser is high. Cheap less powerful lasers have been known to cause paradoxical hair growth and should be avoided at all costs.

How Quickly Will It Work?

Botulinum toxin type a (commonly known as Botox®) usually starts to take effect from day four following the procedure and will continue to progress for up to 3 weeks, at which point optimum results will be seen.

Excessive sweating of the face, hands, feet and armpits can also be effectively treated with the use of toxin injections.

What areas can be treated with toxin injections?

Most commonly as an anti-wrinkle treatment the upper face is targeted; frown lines, forehead wrinkles and crows feet around the eyes.  However, additionally wrinkle lines at the top of the nose, known as bunny lines are also a popular add on. Other areas which can be treated with toxin injections to reduce muscle activity are above the upper lip to treat gummy smiles. The chin area to reduce puckering. The marionette area to reduce downturn corners of the mouth, as well as the neck known as platysmal bands which can become unsightly and more pronounced as we age. Certain medical conditions can also be helped with the use of toxin injections such as bruxism more commonly known as teeth grinding or locking your jaw, As well as migraine in certain circumstances.

Excessive sweating of the face, hands, feet and armpits can also be effectively treated with the use of toxin injections.

I don't want to be frozen, what are my options?

Sarah will always undertreat when it comes to toxin treatments and adjust at 2 to 3 weeks if required. Sarah is an advocate for a natural refreshed look as opposed to a frozen, expressionless appearance.

Is it dangerous?

There are risks with the use of toxins as there are with the majority of aesthetic procedures, however toxins have been used for decades in medicine in much larger doses and it is rare that we read of any significant problems. The most severe risk with toxins would be an allergic reaction to the product. These are incredibly rare and all good clinics should have medical staff who are trained to deal with such emergencies, as well as having emergency kits in their clinics.

What if I don't like it?

In the unlikely event that you don’t love the results of your toxin treatment be assured that the product will start to wear off from approximately 6 to 8 weeks following the procedure and will return to pre-treatment status at approximately six months.

Will it hurt?

The needles that Sarah uses in Clinic are known as the “invisible needle” as they are so fine you can barely see them, making this a very comfortable treatment.  You may feel a slight pinprick in certain areas at most patients comment on how painless the treatment actually is.

Will I need to keep doing it?

To maintain the results treatment will need to be repeated approximately every 3 to 5 months.

What products do you use?

At Brewood Skin Clinic Sarah Offers two different products BoCouture by Mertz aesthetics and Botox made by Allergan.

How does it work?

Facial expressions occur when the brain sends nerve signals to the facial muscles causing them to contract in response to voluntary control, automated or emotional response. Botulinum toxin blocks the transmission of the chemical signal from the nerve reaching the target muscle. Without this signal, the muscle is unable to contract and remains in a resting state, therefore facial expressions are relaxed. It is not always possible or desirable to stop all movement as a completely frozen look may not be aesthetically pleasing. It is important to discuss your expectations with the nurse prescriber at a consultation prior to any treatment

Can this treat Hyperhidrosis?

Diagnosed Hyperhidrosis can be successfully treated with Muscle Relaxing Injections using Toxins to block the chemical pathway at the end of the nerves so that it is unable to work on the glands or muscles. In the case of the sweat glands, it turns them off in order to reduce sweating.  In the UK toxin is licensed for treating axillary (underarm) hyperhidrosis and is mostly a private treatment.  It is generally very effective for treating hyperhidrosis but the area will require regular treatment approximately every three to six months.
The treatment requires multiple small injections of the toxin approximately a centimeter apart in a grid pattern over the armpit area. Treatment takes approximately 45 minutes and results can take up to 2-3 weeks to take full effect.

How quickly will it work?

Dermal fillers work immediately, however Belotero®; the hyaluronic acid filler used at Brewood Skin Clinic can take approximately 2 weeks to settle and become cohesive with the surrounding tissue.  It is therefore advised to review results accurately at two weeks post treatment. Also, we must consider that some temporary swelling may occur immediately following the treatment and some days must pass to allow this to settle.

Sarah will also access your skin in the Eventis® Skin Analysis machine to see exactly what is happening just underneath the skin surface, not only an excellent tool to plan appropriate treatment but also very helpful in continually monitoring progress.

Is it dangerous?

There is risk involved with all dermal fillers and these should always be discussed at the consultation prior to signing consent. If you ever attend a clinic that do not discuss risks and side effects with you then I would always urge you to view this as a red flag. The risks involved are as follows, common risks include some swelling, bruising and possible temporary lumps following treatment. These should only last a few days. More serious risks would include permanent lumps and bumps known as granulomas, an allergic reaction to the filler product and most serious would be a vascular occlusion caused when the hyaluronic acid compresses a vessel or in fact blocks a vessel interrupting blood flow. At your consultation it is imperative that your clinician in this case Sarah discusses all these risks with you and explains how she intends to make the treatment as safe as possible and is prepared for any eventuality i.e., has completed complication training and has an emergency kit on site. Both of which Sarah has prepared at Brewood Skin Clinic. It should be highlighted however that serious side effects with dermal fillers when treated by a medical professional in a suitably equipped clinic are low in their incidents.

What products do I use?

At Brewood Skin Clinic Sarah uses two product ranges, firstly Belotero® Mertz Aesthetics and Juvéderm® by Allergan.

What if I don't like it?

If you do not like the way you look following a dermal filler procedure then a reversal can be performed using a product called hylaronidase®. This will be at additional cost to the patient.

Will it hurt?

Any procedure that involves injecting will have a certain amount of discomfort to it. Sarah will make every effort to make your treatment as comfortable as possible by firstly using a topical anaesthetic cream to numb the surface area and then by using a dermal filler that contains a lidocaine component to further numb the treatment area. In extreme cases a dental block injection can be used, although this is not encouraged.

Will I need to keep doing it?

Repeat treatment will be necessary if you decide you would like to maintain the results.  The frequency is dependent on the product used and the area injected. For example, Belotero Volume® used to add volume to the cheek area will last between 12 and 18 months at which point a repeat treatment will be required.

I don't want it to look un-natural, what are my options?

Sarah’s philosophy is very much about keeping things natural and therefore she tends to under inject at your initial appointment and then will add more if required. As the saying goes “we can always add more it’s much harder to take it away.”  It should be noted this is also a much safer practise when it comes to injecting dermal fillers.

What are dermal fillers and how do they work?

Juvéderm® and Belotero® dermal fillers are made of a substance called hyaluronic acid (HA). Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring compound found in the body tissue that gives the skin structure and helps maintain moisture and volume in the skin. The hyaluronic acid used in both these fillers is a synthetic cross-linked formulation, designed to mimic the hyaluronic acid naturally produced by the body, making it biocompatible and safe for use in dermal filler treatments. It is a gel-like substance that is injected into the skin giving the tissue skin structure, hydration, and a plumping effect. Dermal fillers can address various concerns such as hollow cheeks, thin lips, lines, and wrinkles, and enhance facial contours.

Also, during your consultation the necessary patch tests can be performed which are necessary with all Light-Based Therapies except LED. If, however, you decide you don’t wish to have your patch test during your consultations these can be booked for a separate appointment.  A patch will be required at least one week prior to the commencement of treatment in all cases.

It has long been considered best practice to carry out a patch test, Prior to commencing any light-based therapies. There are two reasons for this; firstly and most importantly it is to assess whether the patient’s skin and target type can tolerate the treatment settings required to bring about best results without causing any potential risk or harm to the patient.  And secondly it is to ascertain whether effective treatment is a likely outcome by assessing whether a specific criteria of clinical endpoints can be achieved. These clinical endpoints when visible will show that best outcomes can be achieved safely.

Dependent on the target i.e., pigmentation or vessels, more than one treatment may be necessary due to differing depths of target and different colours of the target. It is highly unlikely that everything could be covered in one treatment, however number of treatments will be continually reviewed as progress is made.

A review will be booked for four weeks following treatment this allows enough time for the treatment area to recover and for any treatment targets to be fully broken down.

There are potential risks with all light-based therapies which include from least serious to most serious some post treatment redness and minimal swelling through to blistering, pigmentation changes or scarring. It should be noted that Sarah has been operating lasers and IPLs for over 20 years and has an impeccable safety record.

Intense Pulsed Light Therapy is not a pain-free treatment. One of the clinical endpoints that we look for when carrying out a treatment is that the patient can feel a short, sharp pinprick sensation, followed by warmth to the skin. This response is not meant to be agony and is in fact well tolerated by the patient.

Repeat treatments may sometimes be required dependant on what condition we are trying to treat, for example if a patient suffers from Rosacea we are only treating one of the symptoms of rosacea and not the condition itself and therefore to maintain good results occasional maintenance treatments may be required once the initial course has been completed.  This will of course be reviewed and assessed on a patient-by-patient basis.

It is highly unlikely that you will require any time off work. The following day you may well still be quite pink, warm, and possibly puffy.  However, makeup can be worn, and advice will be given on post treatment care.

How does RF Microneedling it work?

Microneedling (also known as skin needling or collagen induction therapy) is a treatment that uses small sterile needles to cause tiny punctures in the skin. These small entry points trigger the body to create a wound healing response and renew the skin cells. As your skin repairs, the production of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid is stimulated to give an almost immediate plumping effect. It can also help tackle other skin damage such as scarring, dark marks, sun damage and ageing.

Combined with the heating effect of Radio Frequency to further stimulate cell renewal and fibroblast production, this truly is a highly effective treatment.

How quickly will it work?

Patients report improvement in skin tone, texture and condition within a week of having a Micro-needling treatment, however due to the nature of fibroblast production it is now known that the skin can continue to improve for up to six months post treatment and in fact optimum results should be seen at three to four months following a course of treatment.

Combined with the heating effect of Radio Frequency to further stimulate cell renewal and fibroblast production, this truly is a highly effective treatment.

Is it dangerous?

Micro needling Is best carried out by a medical professional that is competent in using a sterile non touch technique and is well practised in infection control. The most serious side effect to be aware of with Micro-needling is an infection.  Sarah has carried out hundreds (if not 1000’s) of micro-needling procedures and has not ever caused an infection post treatment.

Combined with the heating effect of Radio Frequency to further stimulate cell renewal and fibroblast production, this truly is a highly effective treatment.

Will it hurt?

Prior to carrying out a microneedling treatment topical anaesthetic is applied to the treatment area and left in situ for 40 minutes to take full effect. Although some areas i.e., forehead can be a little bit sharp most of the treatment area is quite comfortable.

Combined with the heating effect of Radio Frequency to further stimulate cell renewal and fibroblast production, this truly is a highly effective treatment.

Will I need time off work?

It is highly unlikely that you will require any time off work. The following day you may well still be quite pink, warm, and possibly puffy.  However, makeup can be worn, and advice will be given on post treatment care.

Combined with the heating effect of Radio Frequency to further stimulate cell renewal and fibroblast production, this truly is a highly effective treatment.

Why do I need more than one treatment?

Although individual treatments will still give some benefit for optimum results a course of six treatments is recommended.

What areas can be treated?

Most areas can be treated with micro needling however the most popular areas are face, neck and declotte. Other popular areas include arms, stretch marks on the stomach and thighs and lax skin above the knees.

Sarah believes your consultation is the most important appointment you’ll ever have at Brewood Skin Clinic. The results will continue to improve for up to 12 weeks post treatment.

There are some risks involved with sclerotherapy. Common risks include bruising and a little swelling, you can also expect to see a darkening of the vessels initially. The most serious risk would be a deep vein thrombosis, however the incidents of these are incredibly low and likely seen in those patients who are predisposed to the condition anyway.

In Sarah’s 15years of offering sclerotherapy she has never known any of her patients to suffer serious side effects, this is due in no small part to firstly performing a thorough medical history and careful patient selection.

Applying compression hosiery immediately following treatment reduces even further the likelihood of a thrombosis occurring. Compression hosiery is now available in different shades and is far more cosmetically elegant than it used to be.

There is minimal discomfort from the fine needle entering the skin however most patients report that sclewrotherapy is a comfortable treatment.

No, there is no recovery time needed.

With Sclerotherapy treatments, the deeper reticular veins are treated first then the superficial telangiectasia afterwards therefore more than one treatment is usually required.  Also, it is best practise not to use too much product in each treatment.

Sclerotherapy is suitable for their legs only.

Sarah has created these Results Packages for two reasons, firstly having spent many years working in the Aesthetics speciality she has learnt what treatments and products work best together to give maximum results, so she thought it would be helpful to put them together in complete packages of care for her most requested skin concerns.  Secondly, if clients are willing to commit to a full package of care Sarah wanted to make sure they were rewarded with some additional discount, which you will receive with these packages.

Why do I need more than one treatment?

One treatment is unlikely to give satisfactory results and treatment is always best taken in courses to achieve optimum clearance of scarring and textural problems.  The newer the scar the, quicker it is likely to respond to treatment.  Older scars often require additional treatments.

Can you treat anywhere?

Yes, except for the eyelid or below the brow

Will my skin be completely smooth?

You can expect to see a significant improvement, although complete clearance is unlikely, especially on old scars.

Will it hurt?

Fractional Laser Resurfacing is a very comfortable treatment, with usually only a warming sensation being obvious during treatment.

Following your treatment, the skin can feel quite sensitive and tender for a few hours, but this will soon start to fade.

Will it hurt?

Sarah will use a local anaesthetic where appropriate making this a  very comfortable treatment.

Will I need more than one treatment?

In most cases one treatment will give excellent clearance, however with certain conditions such as Viral warts, multiple treatments may be required.

How does a HIFU facial treatment work?

This non-surgical face lift works on the SMAS layer deep below the skin, which is the area surgeons tighten for face and neck lifts. Rather than surgery, the Focus Dual harnesses ultrasound technology to radiate energy to the SMAS layer to tighten, lift and plump the skin.

Which areas can be treated?

  • Abdomen
  • Back
  • Axillary puffs (underarm fat)
  • Thighs
  • Hips
  • Buttocks
  • Arms

What does the treatment feel like?

You may experience a mild warming or slight tingling sensation during treatment. Patients describe this as moderate and acceptable.

How many sessions will I need?

Treatments are carried out every 4-6 weeks and typically between 1 and 3 treatments are recommended for best results. Top-up sessions are performed as required, but usually only once or twice a year.

How long will it take for me to see results?

Results can usually be seen immediately, but the results get better and better up to 12 weeks post treatment as your collagen is renewed.

We expect results to last 1-2 years, but this can be dependent on lifestyle and maintenance.

Is there any downtime with a HIFU treatment?

Due to the non-invasive nature of HIFU treatments, there is virtually no downtime. You may experience slight redness following the treatment, and a small percentage of our clients do experience minor swelling, tingling or tenderness. These symptoms are mild and temporary.

You will be able to return to your normal activities straight away, and there are no special recovery measures needed. This is why HIFU has earned the name “lunchtime face lift”.

We expect results to last 1-2 years, but this can be dependent on lifestyle and maintenance.

Why do I need a consultation?

Sarah believes your consultation is the most important appointment you’ll ever have at Brewood Skin Clinic. Not only does Sarah allows plenty of time to take a thorough medical history, but she spends time building up a picture of you, your lifestyle, your current skincare regimes, what have you tried before, what are your hopes, concerns, and targets. Do you have a particular timeframe to work to etc. etc., Sarah sees a thorough consultation as the first and most crucial step in your skincare journey and that is why she sets aside so much time to make sure she gets all the information she needs to create your bespoke skin journey that you’ll not only be totally happy with, but that you fully understand.

Sarah will also assess your skin in the Eventis® Skin Analysis machine to see exactly what is happening just underneath the skin surface, not only an excellent tool to plan appropriate treatment but also very helpful in continually monitoring progress.

Am I suitable for illumiFacial®?

Treatment is perfect for anyone whose skin exhibits congestion, discolouration and visible signs of ageing. A full treatment plan will then be tailored to treat your specific concerns, all aiming to improve the appearance, feel and health of your skin.

How does the treatment feel?

IllumiFacial® is a very quick, comfortable treatment which is designed to provide you with ‘optimum skin health’. Some people will feel a slight tingling sensation when the fruit peel is first applied, but it very quickly subsides. The IPL aspect of this treatment can sometimes be mildly uncomfortable – most people describe the discomfort as feeling like a ‘quick pinprick’ and ‘warm feeling’, which is very tolerable.

Are there any side effects?

The illumiFacial is a completely non-invasive treatment, using safe, medical-grade equipment to minimise side effects. Your skin may be red and slightly swollen immediately after treatment, but this will subside very quickly. You may also have some patches of dry skin and in very rare cases, a small blister can form with some temporary lightening or darkening of the skin. However, most people experience absolutely no side effects and any reactions usually disappear within a few hours, leaving the skin feeling and looking radiant.

What should I expect after illumiFacial®?

You may experience a superficial tingling feeling on the skin and you may see a darkening of pigment spots before they flake away – this means the treatment has worked perfectly in providing you with a more even, flawless skin tone. As well as clearer, healthier skin, you will also experience an ongoing improvement to the firmness and plumpness of your skin in the following months post-treatment, as new collagen is stimulated deep within the skin tissue.

Following treatment your skin will be quite flushed and you are likely to feel relaxed and a little sleepy.

How does it work?

The test involves a simple prick of the finger with a small, sterilised lancet, which Sarah will carry out in the clinic as part of your consultation. She will then do the rest and call you or invite you back into the clinic when your results are back.

How accurate are the results?

The blood samples are sent away to York Test laboratory who boast a >98% reproducibility rate. This means that, on average, two separate tests carried out with the same person’s sample (taken on the same day) will correlate with each other >98% of the time.

What will the results tell me?

Your results will include an easy-to-follow traffic light list of your food intolerances and sensitivities based on reactivity.  The red foods show High Reactivity and should be eliminated from your diet. The amber foods show a borderline intolerance and would ideally be eliminated or certainly significantly reduced and the green foods are good to go!  Eliminating red and amber foods can make an enormous difference to your gut comfort, your skin and general well-being.

Why should I do a Food Intolerance test?

If you are struggling with a skin condition such as acne, psoriasis, eczema, or rosacea, then an undiagnosed intolerance may be part of the problem

What is Belotero® Revive?

BELOTERO® Revive is an injectable hyaluronic acid dermal filler. It is indicated to revitalise early onset sun-damaged facial skin. Photodamage or sun damage can be characterised by dehydration, loss of elasticity and firmness, and the presence of superficial fine lines.

What is early onset sun damage?

Early onset sun damage or photo damage is premature signs of aging due to ongoing exposure to the sun or harmful light rays. Exposure can start in the first decade without visible signs on the skin. As the exposure continues, early signs such as tanning, freckles, and sunspots emerge. Other signs of sun damage can be seen by the development of fine lines, dryness, uneven pigmentation and texture as well as loss of elasticity and firmness.

How long will it take to see results?

Your treatment will start to work immediately, hydrating your skin, however, optimal results can be seen at 3 months after all initial treatments.

How is Belotero® revive different to other skin boosters on the market?

BELOTERO® Revive unlike most other skin boosters is indicated to revitalise the signs of early onset sun damage, which accounts for approximately 90% of external ageing. As well as this, BELOTERO® Revive also contains an additional ingredient of glycerol, one of the most hydrating substances in the polyalcohol family. This means it creates a lasting moisturising effect, as it promotes water absorption within the skin, resulting in increased hydration, smoothness, elasticity, and firmness.

How long do results last?

The duration of BELOTERO® Revive results varies depending on each individual. In some patients, BELOTERO® Revive has been seen to last between 6 to 9 months, but there are many factors to consider, such as the structure of your skin, lifestyle, and age. It is always best to discuss this with your healthcare practitioner to manage expectations.

How many treatments will I need?

BELOTERO® Revive can be injected under a treatment regimen of 1 to 3 injection sessions depending on your needs. We advise you to book a follow-up appointment no less than 4 weeks after your first treatment to assess the initial outcome and continue with your treatment plan. Your treatment starts to work immediately, hydrating your skin.

What makes an ideal candidate for Belotero® Revive?

BELOTERO® Revive is a treatment option for most patients wanting to improve their skin’s appearance without drastic volume changes. BELOTERO® Revive is a good early intervention that offers a natural-looking, authentic, and enhanced skin look.

Is Belotero® revive safe?

BELOTERO® Revive is part of the BELOTERO® portfolio which have each been researched and shown to be well tolerated in the skin and have an excellent safety profile.

Are there any side effects?

Immediately after treatment, there may be some redness, tenderness or numbness, itching, or bruising. This is a normal result of the injection and can last up to a week. During this time the area may look uneven, therefore the result directly after the treatment should not be viewed as the final result. If any side effect lasts for longer than a week, please contact your practitioner.

Does the treatment hurt?

BELOTERO® Revive is administered through multiple injections which can cause discomfort. Everybody will have different sensitivities to injections and your aesthetic practitioner will advise you on how best to manage any discomfort. Unlike the rest of the BELOTERO® portfolio BELOTERO® Revive does not include lidocaine (an anesthetic/numbing agent) however other pain management solutions can be discussed with your healthcare practitioner.

Is Belotero® Revive® approved by official regulators?

In the European Union, BELOTERO® Revive is a CE-marked medical device meaning it conforms with the European health, safety, and environmental protection standards for products sold within the European Economic Area.

How do I know if my practitioner is a licenced healthcare practitioner?

Always look for qualified Doctors, Dentists, and Nurses trained in medical aesthetics. Often practitioners state on their website what qualifications they have, but also don’t be afraid to ask in your consultation about their background and training. To help you find a local practitioner, our clinic finder contains qualified Doctors, Dentists, and Nurses only that we have trained on BELOTERO® Revive.

What is Profhilo®?

Profhilo® is a type of injectable rejuvenation treatment, and unlike dermal fillers or Botox it is not designed to add volume to the skin, or restrict movement in the facial muscles. Instead, this anti-ageing hydration treatment contains high levels of Hyaluronic Acid, a naturally occurring compound that helps improve tone, texture, and elasticity. It uses a unique concentration of Hyaluronic Acid, which penetrates deeply through the skin to accelerate the production of collagen and elastin, creating plumper skin. Profhilo® works across the entire face rather than focusing on one area, and is therefore fantastic for those looking to smooth fine lines and wrinkles and achieve an overall more youthful appearance.

Who is Profhilo® for?

As we age, the presence of hyaluronic acid in the skin naturally starts to drop, which causes the skin to lose its natural firmness and elasticity. Most people begin to see the effects of hyaluronic acid depletion as they reach their 30s – and Profhilo® is the perfect treatment for anyone looking to counteract this.

Where can Profhilo® be used?

Profhilo® is usually administered into the skin in five key areas (when administered to the face): the tops of the cheeks, the side of the face, lines around the mouth, nasolabial folds, and laughter lines. It can also be used to improve the appearance of the skin around the neck, chest, and décolletage or anywhere on the body to achieve tighter, firmer more hydrated skin.

What happens during treatment?

A fine needle is used to inject small amounts of Hyaluronic Acid into 5 specific areas on each side of the face. A topical anaesthetic cream is applied prior to the treatment and generally takes around 30 minutes to perform once your consent has been obtained and photos have been taken. It is generally described as only mild in discomfort, if at all.

Are there any side effects?

Hyaluronic Acid is very well tolerated by the skin. The only reported side effects are bruising and mild swelling at the injection sites. These generally disappear in a short period of time and are associated with the needle, not the product.

Profhilo® was launched in February 2015 in Italy. It has been used worldwide ever since. From a safety perspective, Profhilo®  is highly bio-compatible because it is made from ultra-pure, natural Hyaluronic Acid and is stabilised without the addition of chemical cross-linking agents. This reduces the risk of adverse reactions.

Is there any downtime with the treatment?

The downtime following a Profhilo® treatment is minimal. When injected, using the five-point technique on each side of the face, there will be small, localised bumps where the product is placed. This is not cause for concern and is a normal part of the procedure.  These lumps will then start to diffuse very quickly, sometimes within 4-6 hours, and they disappear completely by the next day.

When will I see results?

Profhilo® ‘remodels’ the skin after just 2 treatments (4 weeks apart) resulting in tighter, firmer, hydrated, smoother, radiant skin. Sometimes further treatments are required to see the full benefit of Profhilo®. Generally, this would be determined during your initial consultation.

We may then recommend top-up and maintenance sessions, depending on your body’s response to the initial treatment.

Is homecare really going to do anything?

Sarah is only too aware how clients understandably become very cynical about skin care and have often tried numerous “off the shelf” brands with little success prior to attending the clinic.  It’s true that we are continually “fobbed off” with fancy packaging and nice smells, with little clinical evidence or scientific basis behind the brands.

Sarah truly believes she stocks the exception to the rule.  Highly effective, active scientifically proven skincare which can really make a difference to your skin and therefore the effectiveness of your in-clinic treatments.

Combine this exceptional skincare with a tailored prescription of skin specific oral supplements and you’re really going to tackle your skin concerns from the inside and out.

What brands do I stock at the Brewood Skin Clinic?
